Starbucks pushes Albom novel

Mitch AlbomStarbucks (SBUX) will partner with bestselling author Mitch Albom (The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Tuesdays with Morrie) to promote his new novel according to the New York Times Book section. Albom's second novel For One More Day has been chosen to kick-off the coffee retailer's new book program which will make selected books available for sale in outlets as it has done with its long-running offerings of music CDs. That Albom's book is the first offered was leaked to the press yesterday, and Starbucks is expected to announce it formally tomorrow. I guess someone got so excited that they just couldn't keep quiet any longer.

The company's promotion of a film this spring met with less than spectacular results, we'll see if a book is more in line with the "Starbucks culture." Of course, results depend on the quality of the individual work on offer, at least a little bit ...
